According to a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), most people do not receive enough vitamins in their diet and “it appears prudent” for adults to take vitamin supplements.

It’s not a uniquely male problem, but most of us know our diet isn’t all it ought to be.

I think it’s fair to say if we had all the time in the world, we wouldn’t skip meals. We probably wouldn’t eat so much highly processed convenience food, and we might take the time to ensure we were getting all the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients we know our body needs.

Truth is, not all but many men tend to be very reluctant when it comes to scheduling regular doctor visits and listening to their own body when it tries to let them know there may be a problem. It’s kind of like, men asking for directions, not many like to do that!

Can you take a second to answer this question? (Honestly)

No worries, no one else can hear your answer BUT YOU! How do you really feel.......Stressed out , maybe a few sore joints/muscles (but you're tough and you can handle it) been fighting that cold for longer than you planned, YOU KNOW all those prescriptions you are taking are like putting BAND-AIDS on the real issue but HEY! You aren't really concerned about side-effects (the doc said it's OK), looking in the mirror just isn't much fun any more, you see others in your daily commute that just seem to have too much energy, maybe you are thinking.....I'm just getting older, this is the NORM?

Guess what....YOU are FOOLING yourself, you really aren't that tough and you really shouldn't be feeling that way, TRUTH IS.....Your body is trying to TELL YOU SOMETHING.....

READY TO LISTEN???? Or are you comfortable being death? It's Your choice!

In addition to a basic supplement plan men have other concerns that may be worth taking a look at.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS)

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer. The ACS estimates that there will be about 230,900 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in the year 2004. About 29,900 men will die of this disease. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men, exceeded only by lung cancer. While 1 man in 6 will get prostate cancer during his lifetime, only 1 man in 32 will die of this disease. The death rate for prostate cancer is going down. And the disease is being found earlier as well.

African-American men are more likely to have prostate cancer and to die of it than are white or Asian men. The reasons for this are still not known

Bladder Cancer Information

The American Cancer Society estimates that 60,240 new cases of bladder cancer will be diagnosed in the United States during 2004. About 12,710 people will die of the disease. Bladder cancer is almost 3 times more common among men than women and more common among whites than blacks. When found and treated early, as often happens, the chances for survival are very good.

Can men take any action to lower the risks of these type cancers?

"High intake of vitamin E from dietary sources alone was associated with a 42 percent reduced risk of bladder cancer, whereas high intake of vitamin E from dietary sources and supplements combined reduced the risk by 44 percent," Hernandez reported.

Two forms of vitamin E - á:- and ã:-tocopherol - appear to lower the risk of prostate cancer by as much as 53 percent and 39 percent, respectively, based on the findings of a team of scientists from the National Cancer Institute, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and the National Public Health Institute of Finland.
